Harmful Effects of Sleeping In a Bra

Are you one of those women that sleep in bras? See the harmful effects it could trigger

I am sure we all know that ‘Bra’ is an abbreviation of the word ‘Brazier’. A bra is worn by women to support their breasts, provide modesty, and give it firmness.  It uplifts the breasts to create a nice cleavage. Bras are worn to flatten the chest back in the days. Women who are plump and chubby also use the bra to provide control for their chest. However, there are harmful effects of wearing a bra during sleep.

Below are the harmful effects of wearing a bra to sleep

1. Restlessness:

For some women, wearing a bra can be irritating for them at the best of times. So, sleeping in it could enhance this feeling. Women who sleep on their back may feel the bra catch press into their skin, causing discomfort. Underwire bras could also dig into the underside of the chest tissue, and this can cause scratching or red grooves. The effect of these problems is waking through the night and continuous discomfort.

2. Weakened Ligaments:

Though support is the major reason to wear a bar, it can actually be antagonistic to a woman’s health. The breasts do not develop strong ligaments because they do not take the weight of their own load. Therefore, breasts can sag more if a bra is worn regularly. If the bra is worn both day and night, the breasts do not have the opportunity to use the ligaments at all, and this worsens the problem.

3. Cancer:

A book titled “Dressed to Kill,” that was published in 1995, suggested that a bra inhibits lymphatic drainage, increases chest temperature and levels of prolactin. The authors of the book, Singer and Grismaijar proposed that this increases the risk of a woman developing cancer. However, Louise Brinton at the National Cancer Institute suggests this is not a viable scientific explanation because it does not relate to endogenous hormone levels that are connected with cancer. Therefore, although disputed, some thinkers believe that wearing a bra all the time increases the risk of cancer.

4. Excess Sweat:

Being sweaty could be a side effect of wearing a bra to bed. The extra material and padding stifles the air flow around the skin and consequently make a woman abnormally hot and sweaty. This can cause itching and discomfort to the wearer. Women who do sleep in a bra should make sure it is made from a breathable fabric like cotton.

Conclusion: Sleeping without a bra is medically good. I think there are now 'night bras' been produced - this was made possible because some people argued that wearing a bra to bed have advantages.

Stay safe and healthy.
