Health Tips: Ways To Stop Snoring

We all know snoring can be very irritating to those who are around us. People who snore are not even aware of it, and when they are told they snore, they vehemently deny it. “It is a big lie. I don’t snore…” they usually say. How do we know we snore if no one tells us? You should also know that Snoring is one of the symptoms of Sleep apnea which is a common disorder in which you have one or more pauses in breathing or shallow breaths while you sleep.

Sleep apnea is a far more serious sleep disorder with symptoms of snoring, breathing pauses or choking noises during sleep. Breathing pauses can last from a few seconds to minutes and they may occur 30 times or more in an hour. Usually, normal breathing then begins again, sometimes with a loud snort or choking sound. This post discusses snoring remedies.

Below are Snoring Solutions:

1. Always clear your nostrils

If your nostrils or nasal passages are always blocked when you got to sleep, it is 90% certain that you will snore. You should always clear your nostrils before sleep if it is blocked.

2. Learn to sleep on your side

Sleeping on your back can make you snore. This is because when you lie down on your back, it will force the base of your tongue and soft palate to crash to the back wall of your throat, causing you to snore during sleep. Sleeping on your side will prevent this.

3. Make sure to stay hydrated

The more you are dehydrated, the more likely you are going to snoring. So, make sure to drink enough of water daily to push snoring away.

4. Shed some weight

Though slim and chubby people snore, over time, studies have shown that people who are fat often snore. This is because if you are overweight, your neck will gather too much tissue which can affect your breathing. So, lose some weight to deal with snoring.

5. Use an anti-snoring mouthpiece or guard

If you snore, you should provide yourself with anti-snoring devices (such as mouthpiece or guard) to prevent snoring whenever you sleep. However, know that using this guard doesn't necessarily mean that you do not snore. You should check with your doctor before choosing to use the anti-snoring guard to sleep.

6. Avoid drinking alcohol and smoking before bedtime

Drinking alcohol or smoking few hours preceding sleep time is a surefire way for snoring because it won't allow your muscles to relax. Even people who do not snore often will easily snore after drinking alcohol or smoking to bed.

I hope this helps, stay safe and healthy.
